What is the Best Time to Travel to Bali?

The Best Time To Visit Bali

The best time to travel to Bali is an important question when planning a well-earned vacation. Depending on your reasons for going, it makes sense to choose the right season.  Are you going to sight-see some popular Bali attractions? Are you planning on spending your days on the beach or partaking in important local festivals?

The weather and season can be a big factor in your vacation. Let's go over the seasons in Bali, both weather and tourism wise, and find what is the best time to visit Bali.

What Do You Want out of Bali?

As mentioned earlier, what do you want out of your visit to Bali and Indonesia? Are you going to enjoy the Bali Spirit Festival or perhaps experience Nyepi (the Balinese Day of Silence?), Are you hoping to visit temples in the jungle, or to go on a bird-watching excursion in the rice fields?

Although the Bali Spirit Festival is a fixed date and Nyepi changes year to year, the weather is a large part of finding the best time to visit Bali. If you mostly plan to have some fun in the sun, you should go during the dry season (May to September.) On the other hand, if you're hoping to enjoy the culture and lush landscape without crowds, you may pick some month in the rainy season.

Remember, the rainy season won't mean rain all day long. There is usually one downpour per day, followed by sunshine. The best time to travel to Bali, if you are seeking introspection and a quiet getaway, may be the less populated rainy season. That would be October to April.

Are the Colder Seasons the Best Time to Visit Bali?

You may be tempted to escape the clutching freeze of the winter months in the Northern hemisphere and head for Bali. That's a great idea. In Bali, November to March are the wettest months, but they are also the warmest, when you'll be happy to jump in the pool at every occasion. If you're planning to enjoy warm weather, as well as the culture of Bali in peace and quiet, then perhaps the rainy season is a good match.

Don't forgo this time of year due to an increase in rain. The rain itself is often spectacular in Bali. There's nothing like sipping a drink under a cabana while watching the drops dance on the lush foliage. If you were planning on escaping the cold, one hour of tropical rain will still be a welcome diversion. And of course, you can go to the beach as soon as the weather clears!

Are the Warmer Seasons the Best time to Visit Bali?

When is the best time to visit Bali

July and August are usually more expensive, but they have a lot of advantages. The weather is perfect: the humidity level is low and the warmth is at a pleasant pitch.

You could enjoy the annual Bali Arts Festival in June and July or enjoy the Bali Kite Festival. Make sure to check your calendar on the latter as the dates change year to year.  Another wonderful event to see is the most important of the year in Bali, Galungan. The entire island joins together for 10 days to celebrate the Balinese Gods descending to the island. These festivals and events should be high on the list when looking for the best time of the year to visit Bali. Check the dates for each year and plan around them if you're looking to experience Balinese culture.

The downside of traveling to Bali in July and August is that there are more crowds, and the prices are higher. Still, some areas of Bali are never packed with tourists, no matter the time of year. You may want to stay away from the more popular Kuta, Seminyak and Canggu, all of which will be stuffed with tourist and traffic, and head to the more serene areas of Tabanan, Lovina, or Candi Dasa.

The Best Time to Travel to Bali

The best time to travel to Bali depends mostly on what you want to do. If you want to join tourists from across the globe and live in perfect weather while witnessing spectacular festivals, plan for the warmer months of July and August. If you'd rather have the beaches to yourself and enjoy a quieter, more introspective getaway, choose the rainy season, October to March. (Skip December, though: because of Christmas, it can get exceptionally crowded.)

There is no right answer for the best time to travel to Bali, because it depends on the kind of trip you are planning. And remember: no matter what time of year you choose, Bali is always beautiful. It's a part of the world really worth experiencing. Bali is a lush Eden, rich of beauty and culture, and with a unique heritage. Enjoy it for as long as you're able to.

See you in Bali!
